8:25 p.m. More than a dozen people have been arrested at a rally in Manhattan's Union Square to protest the death of Freddie Gray, a Baltimore man who was critically injured in police custody. Several hundred protesters began gathering Wednesday night in Manhattan's Union Square, chanting "no justice, no peace" and "hands up, don't shoot" as police officers watched. Later, a group of protesters spilled into the street and disrupted traffic. The police moved in and began making arrests. Officers with batons had to push the crowd back onto the sidewalk. Baltimore police arrest man on live TV, sparking interest on social media (CNN) As viewers watched on live television, a man held his hands up and walked in front of a phalanx of police in Baltimore on Tuesday night, after a citywide curfew had started. Seconds later, several officers in riot gear rushed out of their line and arrested him,   making social media churn with questions about what happened to the man. The incident unfolded live on CNN about 40 minutes after the 10 p.m. curfew went into effect and as authorities tried to prevent the kind of rioting -- part of protests over the death of Freddie Gray  -- that plagued the city a night earlier. Authorities would eventually say the arrested man was Joseph Kent, held on a charge of curfew violation, according to the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Baltimore riots: Looting, fires engulf city after Freddie Gray's funeral (CNN) Streets in Baltimore looked like a war zone early Tuesday after a night of riots, fires and heartbreak. "Too many people have spent generations building up this city for it to be destroyed by thugs who -- in a very senseless way -- are trying to tear down what so many have fought for," Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said. Security beefed up after looting, fires engulf Baltimore Buildings and cars across the city were engulfed in flames. About a dozen businesses looted or damaged. At least 15 officers were wounded, six of them seriously, the police commissioner said.
